Sweetest Job

This farm laborer might have carried the sweetest crop in the world - sugarcane - but with the way they are earning a minimial compensation, carrying this stuff could rather be bitter than sweet. Still, I consider this job the sweetest ever.

The Chain Game

These are kids I encountered in Almendras Elementary School in one of my visits there few weeks ago. I do not exactly know the name of this game but one thing is certain, the kids enjoyed it and unknowingly enabled them to rehearse camaraderie and teamwork

Usual Struggle in the Highlands

This was taken in Calamohoy, Kapatagan, Digos City last December 12, 2016. Some folks are assisting a vehicle which has difficulty crossing the road being under repair. This is one of the struggles of the people in  the highlands especially during rainy season.

Drying the Danggit

Early in the morning on October 1, 2016; a woman in Dagsa, Tuban, Sta. Cruz files up her danggit fishes for sun drying. With the bounty of danggit in this place, production of dried danggit is one of the livelihood of women.

HABAL-HABAL

A habal-habal driver here ferries a family of six (6) from Barangay Melilia to Poblacion Sta. Cruz. Despite the paved road in this area, residents still choose single motorcycle as the easiest means of transportation. 

Rejean

Rejean is a Bagobo-Tagabawa lady from Sibulan who was a participant of Biyaneng ko Karubbadan. Byaneng is a Bagobo word which means "Muse". 

Harvest Day

A fish cage laborer here gathers water from the sea to be refilled to empty barrels in time before the newly-harvested bangus will be transferred. Fish production in a cages is a prevailing industry in Tagabuli Bay, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Trees Brew Life 2

Employees from San Miguel Brewery, Inc. plant trees along the riverbank of Matina Pangi River, Davao City on August 13, 2016. For four straight years now, SMB has partnered with the Barangay Government of Matina Pangi to reforest identified areas of the barangay as part of its TREES BREW LIFE initiative. 

Uno, Dos ay Mungos

Local folks in Surigao City carries altogether a house to be transferred in a nearby location. Polling manpower resources voluntarily to perform a task is one of the Filipino traits in the past that is still practiced today occasionally.

Samal Fisher

A fisher folk in Samal Island takes a breather after hunting for fishes in this shallow portion of the ocean near the docking area of vessels navigating from Davao City to IGACOS.

Dampa

Dampa is a traditional Pinoy game common to the children especially in the barrios. The raw materials of this game are rubber bands. This one here I shoot while the Badjao kids in Apo Beach, Sta. Cruz were playing it. 

Sungkitero

Collecting mature coconut fruits using this traditional "sungkit" is still a common practice employed by coconut farmers in the rural areas. This one being done in Darong, Sta. Cruz particularly in the Relampagos coco farm just beside Sibulan Riverbak.

Flight for Freedom, Aspiration and Vision

A kid in Padada, Davao del Sur maneuvers his flag kite as a sidelight activity of Kite-Flying Festival culmination day on May 15, 2016 at the Quirino Grounds of Padada. Kite-flying is now on its 5th season and it has been identified as a main tourism activity of the town.

Tuxying the Abaca

A farmer from sitio Colan in Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz is shown here tuxying his newly-harvested abaca trunks. After tuxying, he would then extract the fiber. With the introduction of high-input vegetables in the highlands particularly in Mt. Apo Natural Park, abaca is not anymore given attention by farmers, thereby only very few of them cultivate the supposed valuable and lucrative commodity.

Malalag Ocean Bangus

Laborers in Malalag Bay carries some newly-harvested bangus to the packing shed which is just walking-distance away from the fishing boat. Ocean bangus production is a prevailing industry in Malalag Bay due to its wide water space within its municipal waters. This photo was taken on January 2, 2016.

Kargada'g Lubi

Labourers here load some newly-harvested coconuts in a farm located in Barangay Tuban, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. The commodity is predominant in Mindanao where residents depend largely for earning  a living.

Water is Life

A mountain buddy here Mr. Julius Biala drinks water from an improvised bamboo faucet in sitio Cabarisan, Sibulan. This potable water is sourced out from a spring in Mt. Sibulan, a vast forested area in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Highland Living

A farmer cooks rice for lunch after some routine in his farm located in Buribid Range, Tibolo, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
